Chisinau, February 14, 2020 - The Civil Aviation Authority takes active part in rectifying the situation and lifting the ban imposed by the United Arab Emirates on airlines from the Republic of Moldova.

On January 19, 2020, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Republic of Moldova received a letter from the UAE aviation authorities informing that from 01.02.2020 the activities of four airlines of the Republic of Moldova will be suspended for 6 months.

On the same day, instructions were given to sort out the situation and submit an investigation report on this issue. A preliminary investigation showed that the reaction of the UAE aviation authorities was due to ignorance by the previous leadership of the Moldovan aviation authorities. No responses were received to written requests from the UAE aviation authorities regarding the activities of Moldovan airlines in the United Arab Emirates.

As a result, the UAE aviation authorities have imposed a ban on cargo transportation to Moldovan airlines in the UAE.

During the audit, it turned out that the suspension of the companies was the result of a negligent attitude to work and inaction of the previous management during 2018-2019.

According to these violations of functional duties, the CAA of Moldova in the coming days will transfer all available materials and information to law enforcement authorities to conduct an investigation and determine the responsibility of authorized officials of the CAA.

The CAA of Moldova apologizes to the aviation authorities of the UAE for the lack of dialogue and proper cooperation, and also offers an apology to local carriers.

At present, a number of measures have been taken to resolve the situation as soon as possible within the framework of the CAA Republic of Moldova, and in this regard, the director of the CAA, with the direct assistance of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the UAE, will hold a meeting on Monday 17.02.2020 with his colleague, General Director of the GCAA UAE, to establish relations between the aviation authorities of the two countries and further fruitful cooperation in order to strengthen safety oversight measures, the exchange of information and common control over companies activities.

Within the framework of the actions taken by the aviation authorities, on the basis of existing ICAO rules and other international agreements, all comments and inconsistencies for subsequent decisions on the resumption of flights of Moldovan airlines in the UAE will be objectively and individually considered.
