The CAA's Safety Department has a fundamental role of setting safety management systems standards at national level and ensuring that these are met at aviation industry level.

It is an independent service within CAA reporting directly to Director General.

Any occurrences with possible safety implications and any potential hazard are closely scrutinized so that the CAA top management can be confident that the highest practicable levels of safety are achieved.

All service providers are monitored on permanent basis, this includes:

• the competence and performance of the personnel involved;
• the operation and maintenance of aircraft; and
• the operational environment including airports and air traffic control systems.
• Data is collected and analyzed, and potential risks are identified.
