Main tasks

The aeromedical examination determines the fitness of aviation personnel to perform safety their professional duties. It has a major importance as contributes to flight safety, at the same time helps to preserve pilots` health for their flying carrier."

The Aeromedical Section is Responsible for:

  • Setting and implementing medical standards for flight personnel and air traffic controllers;
  • Controlling the medical certification of flight crew and air traffic controllers; participation in problematic medical certification and appeal cases;
  • Designating aviation medical examiners;
  • Keeping constant communication with the medical departments of other civil aviation authorities, collaborating with EASA Rulemaking and Standardisation Directorates and with other international organizations in the field of Aviation Medicine;
  • Determining and monitoring the training in aviation medicine;
  • Determining and overseeing the first aid on board of aircraft and at airport medical services with regards to air passengers health;
  • Collaborating with different departments of Ministry of Health in respect with national medical and sanitary standards;
  • Other attributions.

Aeromedical Section takes part in elaboration of the standards related to the medical aspects of civil aviation of the Republic of Moldova. One of the main responsibilities of our CAA in the field of aviation medicine is the medical certification of all pilots, engineers, navigators, air traffic controllers and cabin crewmembers, performed in strict compliance with the international and national requirements.

Medical certification of professional pilots, navigators and flight engineers is performed in accordance with Class 1 medical requirements of JAR-FCL 3.

Medical certification for private pilots, glider pilots, free balloon pilots and flight operators is performed in accordance with Class 2 medical requirements JAR-FCL 3.

Medical certification for air traffic controllers and cabin crew is performed in accordance with Class 3 medical requirements that are based on EUROCONTROL standards and are given in RAC-APL 3 Ch. 6.

JAA medical requirements for Class 1 and Class 2 are described in JAR-FCL 3, for class 3 are described in RAC-LPA 3, Chapter 6.
